Cole Goben Leather Craft

Quality Handmade Leather Goods

This site is to show off some of my leather working projects I have worked on. I'm always open to questions, tips, suggestions, and custom orders.

Weldwood Contact Cement

I spent a lot of money trying to find a good cement that didn't cost an arm and a leg. I also wanted an adhesive that I could source locally. Shipping get expensive and I didn't want to have to wait around to complete a project.

I researched around online and picked up a couple different kinds. All performed well but none outperformed the quality, price, and availability of Weldwood. I can pick it up at nearly any hardware or big box store. I just happened to get mine from the local Wal-Mart. Price was no issue since a 32oz can was cheaper than any other glue I had tried.

I am using both the red label(flammable) and the green label(non-flammable) kinds. Both adhere to leather very well and joint strength is incredible. As long as both articles of leather are properly prepped and assembled it will no doubt be a permanent hold. The flesh side shouldn't need any prep as long as it is clean. The grain side may need to be roughed up a bit for a more secure hold.

Currently I am using the green label mixture(non-flammable). The red labeled can has a very potent fume that wafts through the house worse than taco night. I recommend the green label if you don't have some sort of ventilation. Everyone in the household will appreciate it too. Both have a comparable hold so I wouldn't be too concerned with choosing one over the other for any other reason.

I completely recommend Weldwood for all leather items!
